AberthawAberthaw power station is the biggest polluter in Wales, scoring top of the league not only for emissions of carbon dioxide, but also for nitrous oxide and sulphur dioxide, both harmful greenhouse gases. Ffos-y-FranFfos-y-Fran is a climate disaster waiting to happen. If Wales had the same laws as other parts of the UK – which demand a 500 metre buffer zone between opencast mines and residential housing – it could never have been built. No wonder it’s been opposed for years by local residents. Merthyr deserves better than Ffos-y-Fran – it deserves to be part of a Wales at the forefront of government investment in renewables, led by a Welsh Assembly Government taking its own commitments on sustainability seriously.More…
